ten of wands

Summary

learning our limits

Hi I'm Amelia Hruby and welcome to my tiny tarot practice. today's card is the 10 of Wands.

In the Rider waite Smith Deck the 10 of Wands depicts a person who is holding 10 wands 10 big stick

X in front of them and they are like walking forward they're leaning forward into these sticks their head is buried in them they look into the sticks and toward the ground they can't see what's ahead of them even as they walk toward what looks like buildings or a town in farther away.

But this person is immersed in what looks to be a strenuous task this doesn't look

Pleasant if we think back to the 9 of Wands where we saw someone bandaged and standing in front of this wall of Wands they've created now it almost feels like they scooped up the whole wall and they're carrying in somewhere else and it's it feels heavy.

That's the ones that feel heavy.

And a common interpretation of this card common interpretation of the 10 of Wands is it it's a card about burnout.

See that in just a crispin's interpretation in the creative tarot we see that even in Jessica doors interpretation.

In Tarot for change but I really love the way that Jessica door adds to that say you know maybe it's not so much about burnout but it's really about limits knowing our limits and recognizing if we've reached them.

If you've been listening to that

other wands episode so talked a lot about boundaries with the wants and I think that's because the wands are the suit of fire they're so passionate and when we have those Flames we often need boundaries around them Flames can often yield conflict

wands can often fire can often yield conflict and conflict often requires boundaries for our own Safety and Security amidst disagreement.

But I also think it's important I loved again the reframe that Jessica door offers I'm just going to read a passage from tarot for change about this where she says I like to think about boundaries as limits

since a limit is something every person has while a boundary can feel like something reserved for only

whole people healthy people people who really have their lives together,

whether you choose to enforce them or not you absolutely have Limits line that should not be crossed conditions that are too much or not enough those that will support your growth or betray it.

So in the 10 of Wands we seem to see someone perhaps who is at their limit.

Again some people interpret this as a card of being burnt out it's too much you're carrying too much you've taken on this burden that's how Rachel Pollack reads it that the 10 of Wands is a card about burden.

And I really like also how she puts it where she says in her book 78 degrees of wisdom we see here the great wands problem.

The fire energy acts without thinking takes on new problems simply for the challenge,

but these situations and responsibilities do not go away when the person becomes bored and wants to go on to something new they remain and can swamp the fire that seemed to conquer them.

So in that interpretation we see that you know ones is about passion is about desired about Creative Energy and our desire can lead us to take on so much and then sometimes,

everything that we have taken on of our own accord can become too much and can feel like too much we can cross our own limits.

I definitely have a lot of personal experience with that I tend to get Way Beyond my limit before I've even realized I've crossed it.

So when I look at the 10 of Wands I see this figure who has taken on so much.

I don't think we can know from this card whether they've taken that on willingly or been told to or push to take those things on.

And I don't think we can know exactly how they're feeling about it at the moment but what I really feel in this card is like this is not sustainable,

so I'm somebody who likes to do a lot of hard work kind of in Sprints and in this card I think this could be a Sprint moment we see the figure they've got like one foot off the ground one foot on their toe their heels off the ground like they're kind of

sprinting definitely moving forward it could be sprinting forward so they can carry all ten of these wands for a short distance but probably not for a long distance.

And I think this card it really depends on what's happening in our lives when we when we pull it or when we're reading it.

We may have a burden that is too much to bear we have a burden that is burn out we may have a burden that we've willingly take it on our sprinting forward with.

We may have a burden that was never our choice
with the 10 of Wands we reach the end of the wands I call that was started with the Ace of.

So the Ace of Wands episode I talked about how aces are this moment of the,

the spark the Ember and the flame of the fire so the Ace of Wands contains the whole cycle and in that case we saw so much passion

and as the the one suit involved you know through the 2324 we saw that passion evolved into a journey evolved into Victory evolved into

and now evolved into burden,

so we see what can happen when our passion our desire leads us into conflict with others or even just to take on too much ourselves,

but back in the Ace

an episode about the Ace of Wands I talked about how with wands we see not only passion but force and I was thinking there of the German word for Force craft.

Because the ones are often about creativity and with that creative passion we see this sort of this Force that's both like inner and divine I.

And so when I think about this full Journey from Ace to the 10.

I think about force and that also I think invites us to think about power.

There's so much power in our creative impulse and our creative impulse can also be stifled by power.

So again these wands might be a burden that we've taken on willingly but I think they could also be the weight of social norms they can also be the,

Devastation of realizing that are creative dream.

May not be viable in the world that we live in our capital is patriarchal white supremacist Society may not allow for it to come to life we may bury our self in that and moments.

It's an invitation to learn our limits and to.

Feel into whether our creative impulse is.

Helping us fly is whether we're stoking the fires of that or whether we are buried under their weight.

Whether this is a wildfire that is totally now burning too much land taking too much life.
